As rising airfare pushes travelers to rethink their plans, the traditional vacation is getting a local refresh. According to a recent poll by The Points Guy, nearly a quarter of Americans have reconsidered travel this year due to airline ticket prices, while about a third say they prefer to travel domestically.

Still, the desire to escape has not disappeared. It has simply moved closer to home. Enter the “daycation,” a growing travel trend that lets guests book hotel pools, spas, rooftops, gyms, cabanas and day rooms by the hour or day.

Here are some of the top places in Miami to trade flights for local leisure, without breaking the bank.

Brickell & Downtown Miami

The Elser Hotel & Residences

At Novotel Miami Brickell, locals can turn an ordinary afternoon into a rooftop retreat. Through ResortPass, guests can reserve a poolside daybed or shaded lounge seating and order cocktails from Vista Rooftop Bar & Lounge. Additional perks include fitness center access, Wi-Fi and complimentary parking.

Nearby in Downtown Miami, The Elser Hotel & Residences offers a more elevated urban escape. Available through ResortPass, the property’s 19,000-square-foot rooftop deck overlooks Biscayne Bay and features a heated pool, a hot tub and poolside service. Guests can upgrade their experience with gym access or a private day room for up to four people.

Wynwood

For a high-energy daycation in Miami’s preeminent arts district, ART Wynwood at Arlo Wynwood delivers a lively rooftop scene with a 76-foot heated pool, DJ-led day parties, private cabanas, cocktails, bites and skyline views framed by bold murals. Day passes, family packages and cabana reservations are available through ResortPass.

Miami Beach

The Pool at Strawberry Moon

At The Gates Hotel South Beach, guests can pair poolside relaxation with beach yoga, a one-hour EV bike rental and discounted valet parking via ResortPass. Families can choose bundled pool passes, while cabana reservations include reclined daybeds and optional prosecco service.

In Mid-Beach, Hotel Continental Miami Beach, Tapestry Collection by Hilton channels vintage Miami charm with access to its retro-inspired pool, beach, fitness center and on-site dining. Guests looking for extra privacy can also book Day Room Passes between swims.

For those craving a more social atmosphere, The Goodtime Hotel offers access to The Pool at Strawberry Moon, a 30,000-square-foot pool club known for pastel cabanas, DJs and weekend energy. Day passes include pool, fitness center and Wi-Fi access, with Dayuse rooms also available.

Meanwhile, The Betsy blends seaside relaxation with art, music and literary programming. Guests can dine at The Alley or LT South Beach, catch live jazz at The Piano Bar, and explore installations like “The Betsy Orb” and “The Betsy Poetry Rail.” They can also time their visits around poetry readings, Books & Books events or the free Sunday Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series.

In Florida, where resort living is never far away, a few hours can be enough to feel transported. The getaway has not disappeared; it has simply found a new check-in time.
