As someone who loves exploring Miami’s vibrant art scene, I’ve always been captivated by its energy—from the global spotlight of Art Basel to the striking murals of Wynwood. What excites me most, however, are the hidden gems I’ve discovered beyond the usual tourist paths. While wandering through the city, I’ve uncovered some lesser-known artistic venues that I think you’ll enjoy too. 


1. Locust Projects

As Miami’s longest-running alternative art space, Locust Projects provides a platform for experimental and site-specific installations. It supports emerging and mid-career artists by encouraging boundary-pushing creativity.

2. The Wolfsonian-FIU’s Rare Book Collection

Located in Miami Beach, this lesser-known treasure trove focuses on design, art, and propaganda from the late 19th to mid-20th century. The intimate library is a haven for history and design enthusiasts and houses 125,000 rare books, periodicals, reference materials, special archives, and ephemeral items including: vintage postcards, advertisements, brochures, calendars, leaflets, labels, sheet music covers, schedules, matchbook covers, and more.

3. Bakehouse Art Complex

Housed in a former Art Deco-era bakery, this space serves as a working studio for over 60 local artists. Visitors can explore exhibits, studios, and workshops while supporting the local art community.

4. The Rubell Museum’s Library

While the Rubell Museum is popular for its contemporary art, its library is a hidden gem that holds 40,000 unique volumes. Housing an extensive collection of books and catalogs, it’s a quiet retreat for art lovers and researchers. It's also a unique space for private dinners, meetings and, presentations.

5. The Haitian Heritage Museum

Located in Little Haiti, this museum celebrates the rich culture and artistry of Haiti through exhibitions, performances, and workshops.

6. Art Deco Welcome Center

Beyond its tours and guides, the center hosts small exhibits and events that delve into Miami Beach’s unique architectural history. A visit to the museum will teach about the three major historic design styles in Miami Beach. These styles are Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco, and Miami Modern (MiMo). Scale models of select buildings allow you to have a closer look at the elements of these structures.
