The South Florida Pride Concert Band Presents An Evening with Lea DeLaria


The South Florida Pride Concert BandFlorida’s oldest LGBTQ+ band, presents An Evening with Lea DeLaria for an entertaining jazz-themed concert on Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m. at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.


Celebrated jazz vocalist, comedian and actress to kick-off season-opening concert on Saturday, November 9


The season-opening performance features DeLaria, a two-time, SAG Award winning actress who may be best known for her stand-out role as ‘Carrie ‘Big Boo’ Black’ in the Netflix hit series “Orange is the New Black.” More than an actress, her multi- faceted career as celebrated jazz vocalist and musician, as well as a comedian and activist, has spanned decades. 

 

“We are very excited to have a talent the caliber of Ms. DeLaria sharing the stage with our concert and jazz bands," said Dan Bassett, artistic director of the South Florida Pride Concert Band. “She is an incredible jazz vocalist and hilarious comedian. Our audience is in for a real treat.” 

 

DeLaria will be accompanied by both the South Florida Concert and Jazz Bands on several musical selections as she entertains the audience with her sharp wit and vocal talents.

 

DeLaria was the featured vocalist at the 50th Anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival, and has performed in some of the most prestigious houses in the world including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Chicago Symphony, Hollywood Bowl, The Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House. She has five records on the Warner Jazz and Classics label and her book "Lea's Book of Rules for the World" is in its third printing at Bantam Doubleday and Dell. Her sixth record, House Of David delaria+bowie=jazz has received critical acclaim.

The South Florida Pride Concert Band consists of a group of over 60 musicians of all levels presenting three annual concerts for the LGBTQ+ and allies’ communities in South Florida.

 

Now in its 38th the South Florida Pride Bands, Inc., and its component organizations, provides a safe and educational environment for LGBTQ+ musicians, youth, and their allies to perform quality music for the LGBTQ+ and greater South Florida communities. southfloridapridebands.org/
