The Marker Key West Harbor Resort Honors National Key Lime Pie Day with New Turndown Service
Updated: Sep 26, 2022
On July 1, 2006 both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate passed legislation selecting the “Key lime pie” as the official pie of the state of Florida. Today, on National Key Lime Pie Day, The Marker Key West Harbor Resort launches a new Key Lime turndown service as the perfect bedtime amenity for guests.
As guests return from their day exploring the beautiful Key West Seaport, an array of Key Lime amenities will be arranged at their bedside. Upon entering, a slice of not too sweet, not too tart, key lime pie with the perfect crust to filling ratio will serve as a perfect late night snack accompanied by a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. This wine choice offers tasting notes of grapes that pair beautifully with the citrus aroma of Florida Key Limes and a dash of coconut.
The service also includes Key Lime scented bath and shower amenities by Key West Aloe offering a zesty tropical escape. Key Lime-flavored mints will also be provided. This new turn down service is available upon request and will run through the rest of the year.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of visiting Key West knows the significance Key Lime Pie has on the old town. It is highly likely that the first Key Lime Pie was created by "Aunt Sally," the cook of a ship salvager and Key West's first millionaire. Many of the men aboard his ships would have had access to the basic and non-perishable ingredients required for the early recipe: canned milk, limes and eggs. Since then, Key Lime Pie has become one of the most beloved dishes in The Sunshine State.
