The Gabriel South Beach Announces An Upgrade to 100% Renewable Electricity

Updated: Apr 28, 2022

The Gabriel South Beach, Curio Collection by Hilton, announced that the hotel is now powered by 100% renewable electricity.

The Gabriel South Beach is part of Conscious Certified Hotels (CCH), an ESG platform with a commitment to social, health and environmental consciousness. The platform, created by CGI Merchant Group, focuses on implementing environmental improvements to hotel operations and caters to purposeful travelers who seek out properties who are focused on supporting sustainable causes.

“With a dedication to preserve the planet, we have a responsibility to act for the good of the environment,” said Robert Festinger, vice president of hospitality asset management at CGI Merchant Group, LLC. “By shifting to 100% renewable electricity, we’re keeping our future travelers in mind. We’re also reducing our single-use plastics above and beyond the compliance requirements issued by the City of Miami Beach, with hope that the future will look a lot brighter for life on this planet.”

Through Hilton’s LightStay Program, The Gabriel is accredited to ISO 50001 (Energy Management, ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and ISO 9001 (Quality Management). ISO provides internationally recognized frameworks and standards for organizations in the areas of products, services and systems. With these certifications, Hilton Worldwide is one of the first multinational organizations to certify its entire system globally, achieving one of the largest-ever volume certifications of commercial buildings. In 2019, the LightStay Program achieved the honor of becoming a ‘GSTC-Recognized Standard’ by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

The Gabriel South Beach is managed by Highgate, a premier hospitality investment and management company. As part of Highgate’s latest sustainability initiatives, the hotel is one of over 200 Highgate properties that are now powered by 100% renewable electricity and that have committed to third-party verification for 2022 through Green-e®, the nation’s leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy.

“With more travelers focused on making sustainable travel choices, we are proud that The Gabriel has already achieved 100% renewable electricity utilization,” said Marianne Balfe, Vice President of Sustainability at Highgate. “This effort addresses the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the hotel’s electricity consumption – substantially lowering our overall carbon footprint – and represents a larger initiative to push for stronger ESG commitments within the hospitality industry.”

The Gabriel South Beach is now accepting reservations with rates starting at $249 per night. For additional information about The Gabriel South Beach, visit thegabrielsouthbeach.com.
