The Bass Appoints Philippe Vergne as Artistic Director and Chief Curator
The Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach has appointed Philippe Vergne as its inaugural artistic director and chief curator, formalizing a new leadership role that combines curatorial oversight with long-term artistic planning.

Vergne joins The Bass from the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto, Portugal, where he served as director for seven years. His previous leadership roles include positions at the Dia Art Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, and the Walker Art Center, giving him extensive experience at major contemporary art institutions.
According to the museum, Vergne will take up his post at a pivotal moment of growth and expansion, bringing a focus on artists and communities as he helps guide The Bass’s exhibitions and programs in the coming years.
