The 24th Annual Copa Agua Alta Unfolds in Careyes Presented by Defender, March 22-30, 2024
Careyes, a beachfront destination in Jalisco, Mexico, hosts its 24th annual Copa Agua Alta from March 22 to 30, 2024, presented by Defender. This year’s celebration will be presented by Defender with a week of curated events including polo matches, cocktails, golf tournament, fashion show, test drives of the Defender, daily yoga sessions and more.
Careyes, a beachfront destination in Jalisco, Mexico
Careyes is located on the Costalegre between Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta with 12 kilometers of coast, is the site for the 24th edition of the well-known Polo tournament of Agua Alta, at the Careyes Polo Club, which was created in 1990 by founding family member Giorgio Brignone.
Two Bermuda-sized polo fields, the largest fields in Mexico, located just inland from Teopa beach, will be showcasing 8 teams of 6 to 12 goals with more than 175 horses and 32 professional players from around the world, such as Martin Huertas from Colombia with six goals, Rodrigo Vieljeux and Chino Li from Peru with 5 goals, Clement Delfosse from France with 5 goals, and many other top players.
Passionate about Polo and a longtime member of the international Careyes community, Alberto Ardissone started the Agua Alta tournament in 2000 as a small tournament with his professional polo friends from around the world. Today, the two Italian founders Giorgio and Alberto, along with Manuel Matos Gil and Guillermo Jimenez, have joined forces to make Agua Alta the major Polo tournament of Mexico. The 24th Agua Alta cup is a refined mixture of social and sporting events together with gastronomic experiences, private parties, and fashion shows for approximately 500 people invited from Mexico, the United States, Canada and Europe!
The program kicks off on Friday, March 22 with high and low handicap polo matches and a welcome reception with live music at Casa Agua Alta hosted by Alberto and his wife Kari Ardissone. Saturday, Costalegre will invite the Careyes guests to a picnic on the beautiful, private Paraiso beach with culinary specialties from the area.
Events will pick up again on Wednesday, March 27 with a party on Teopa Beach at Casa de Nada restaurant. On Thursday, Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo will host its golf tournament, and when back in Careyes, guests will be able to attend a fashion show and cocktail reception at El Careyes Club and Residences by Tucanê, the Mexican clothing brand.

In the evening, a black and gold theme cocktail reception hosted by Bvlgari will be held at Casa La Huerta, a spectacular house in Careyes where a golden Bulgari snake mosaic lays at the bottom of the swimming pool, which was created based on inspiration from the Bvlgari Serpenti Collection.
The highly anticipated final match on Saturday afternoon will define the winning team and a final party at lilo beach club on Playa Careyitos will be celebrating a week of sports, encounters, and unique experiences in the magical coast of Careyes.
With growing support for polo in Mexico, Agua Alta allows high goal professional players and patrons to meet in Careyes annually. Together with Defender, the 2024 Agua Alta Cup sponsors include Bvlgari, Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, Viparmex, Renewis, Campari, Ralph Lauren Fragrance, Casa Pueblo, Colours, Careyes, United States Polo Association, and Federacion Mexicana de Polo.
Victor Jimenez and JP Montavlo, owners of the Casa Pueblo home décor store in Careyes, will be the hosts of the furniture design and decoration of the tents on the side of the main polo field once again, and lunch will be available by Cucurucucu, the restaurant created by Giorgio Brignone.
Viparmex returns to Copa Agua Alta for the third time, providing the celebration bubbles with Ferrari Trento and some fine Italian and French wines for the social events.Campari continues their commitment to Careyes with a selection of brands highlighted by Aperol Spritz and Campari (Negronis) in order for the polo fans to enjoy the matches well refreshed.Campari also highlights their global partnership with Bvlgari at the event bringing the Italian founding origins of Careyes on the front scene.
