Founded by entrepreneur Grant Barnekow, this innovative device aims to tackle the growing epidemic of feline obesity affecting 61% of cats nationwide.
"We're bringing Silicon Valley innovation to address a critical health issue for our feline companions," Barnekow told the Los Angeles Tribune. "Health-conscious pet owners have been seeking a solution like this for years."
The Sphinx feeder, dubbed the "Keurig for wet cat food," promises to revolutionize cat care with features like built-in refrigeration, precise portion control, and AI-driven feeding schedules. It’s a product launch that could signal a significant shift in how urban pet owners approach feline nutrition.

At its core, the device offers built-in refrigeration to maintain food freshness, paired with a warming function that heats meals to blood temperature, enhancing palatability for even the pickiest eaters.
But what sets Sphinx apart is its AI-powered portion control system, which precisely measures each serving to prevent overfeeding — a common contributor to feline obesity. This smart technology works in tandem with customizable feeding schedules designed to align with cats' natural grazing behaviors. Additionally, the feeder tracks food consumption, allowing pet owners to monitor their cat's eating habits and minimize waste, addressing both health and sustainability concerns in one sleek package.
Sphinx offers both pre-filled pods with veterinarian-approved recipes and reusable pods for those who prefer to prepare their cat's meals at home.
The introduction of Sphinx addresses the growing demand for personalized pet care solutions in a city where pets are often considered integral family members.

"After experiencing the challenges of maintaining a proper feeding routine for my cat while balancing a busy lifestyle, I realized there had to be a more efficient solution," Barnekow shares. "Sphinx aims to provide cats with optimal nutrition without compromising on convenience for pet owners."
