Year-Long Cartier Watch Sales Begin in Hong Kong

Sotheby’s has opened its year-long sales of The Shapes of Cartier Collection, described as the largest grouping of vintage Cartier timepieces to come to auction, with an inaugural sale in Hong Kong.

The auction highlights Cartier’s so-called “secret signature,” introduced in the 1970s as a discreet detail for connoisseurs on selected timepieces. Collectors are being invited to examine these design features as further sales from the collection roll out over the course of the year.

Rediscovered Monet Sets New Record in Paris

A recently rediscovered painting by Claude Monet has achieved €10.2 million at Sotheby’s Paris, setting a new auction record for the work in the house’s Modern and Contemporary Evening Sale.

The work had been out of public view for around a century before appearing at auction, where competitive bidding pushed the price beyond expectations and confirmed continued demand for major Impressionist works.

Enrico Donati Collection Heads to New York with London Preview

Sotheby’s will bring the personal collection of Enrico Donati, long associated with New York’s mid twentieth century creative circles, to auction in New York in May.

The holdings, which were rarely exhibited publicly, will first be shown in London as part of a highlight tour for the Modern and Contemporary season, offering visitors the chance to see key works before they come under the hammer.

Three Day London Preview of New York Sale Highlights

From 19 to 21 April, Sotheby’s New Bond Street galleries in London will host a public preview of masterpieces from upcoming New York sales in modern and contemporary art.

The presentation, billed as “Three Days in London,” will bring together star lots from the New York auctions, allowing visitors in the United Kingdom to view the works in person ahead of the sales.

Additional Sales in Rock, Pop, Design and Photography

Upcoming Rock and Pop Culture sales will feature material related to the Beatles and a group of works once associated with Prince, while an Important Design auction in New York includes 15 mirrors by Claude Lalanne originally created for Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé.

In New York, British photographer Miles Aldridge is also offering a limited number of portrait sessions in a temporary studio at Sotheby’s headquarters from 20 to 24 April, coinciding with the AIPAD photography fair.
