Schoelkopf Gallery to Show Rare Romare Bearden Watercolors at Art Basel Miami Beach Booth G5

Schoelkopf Gallery from New York, will return to Art Basel Miami Beach this December (Booth G5) with a landmark exhibition of American art. The show, timed ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026, traces the evolution of American Modernism from the early 20th century through the postwar era.

Frank Bowling’s Killclay (2013) is an acrylic and acrylic gel painting on collaged canvas with marouflage, measuring 28¼ × 30 inches (71.8 × 76.2 cm), and is signed, dated, and inscribed with the title on the stretcher.

At the heart of the presentation is a rare watercolor suite by Romare Bearden, offering a reinterpretation of The Odyssey that explores themes of African American identity, mythology, and cultural transformation. The booth will also feature works by influential artists such as Mary Abbott, John Marin, Frank Bowling, Ed Clark, Sam Gilliam, Beauford Delaney — alongside major paintings by Andrew Wyeth and Jamie Wyeth that have never before been shown publicly.

The exhibition underscores Schoelkopf Gallery’s commitment to elevating American art and promoting its key figures on a global stage. The moment also carries special weight as the gallery approaches its 25th anniversary next year.
