Richard Mille's RM 74-02: A $550,000 Masterpiece of Engineering & Elegance

Richard Mille continues to redefine the boundaries of luxury watchmaking with the RM 74-02 Automatic Winding Tourbillon, priced at $550,000. Part of the brand’s Men’s Collection, this 53 mm marvel boasts a cutting-edge carbon case and represents the pinnacle of innovation and refinement. Paired with its counterpart, the RM 74-01, the RM 74-02 exemplifies the fusion of advanced engineering and sophisticated aesthetics, making it a coveted addition to the world of haute horlogerie.

A Skeletonised Heart of Gold

At the core of the RM 74-02 lies the CRMT5 calibre, a skeletonised automatic-winding tourbillon movement meticulously crafted in-house. Featuring hours, minutes, and a variable-geometry rotor, the movement boasts a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. Its baseplate and bridges, made from 18K 5N red gold and 18K 3N yellow gold respectively, have been hand-bevelled and microblasted to enhance durability and elegance.

This gold construction is not merely decorative; it has undergone rigorous validation to optimize resistance, ensuring the RM 74-02 performs seamlessly under the most demanding conditions.

Advanced Mechanics for Precision and Performance

A standout feature of the RM 74-02 is its free-sprung balance with variable inertia, ensuring superior reliability and precision. The balance wheel eliminates the regulator index, achieving repeatable calibration through four adjustable weights, enhancing its chronometric performance over time.

Meanwhile, the variable-geometry rotor allows for customization based on the wearer’s activity level. By adjusting the position of two moveable weights, the rotor's inertia can be modified to either increase or decrease the winding efficiency, a hallmark of Richard Mille’s innovative engineering.

Gold Carbon TPT® Case: A Technological Triumph

The RM 74-02’s Gold Carbon TPT® case is a testament to cutting-edge material science. Comprising 600 layers of carbon fibres interspersed with 24K yellow gold leaf, the composite undergoes precise stacking and heating processes that ensure its durability and unique visual appeal. The resulting case displays a mesmerizing play of light, with graduated golden tones that accentuate its contours.

The caseband, crafted from 18K 5N red gold, complements the Gold Carbon TPT® to create a harmonious and luxurious aesthetic. As with all Richard Mille watches, the tripartite case is held together by 20 titanium spline screws, ensuring water resistance up to 50 meters.

A Statement in Watchmaking Excellence

The RM 74-02 Automatic Winding Tourbillon is a bold expression of Richard Mille’s philosophy: to create timepieces that are as technically complex as they are visually striking. This model, with its intricate construction and luxurious materials, cements the brand’s reputation as a pioneer in haute horlogerie.

For those who demand both innovation and exclusivity, the RM 74-02 offers an unrivaled combination of artistry and precision, making it a true masterpiece for discerning collectors.
