Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Set to Unveil New Update in 2025

In the race to perfect wearable smart tech, Ray-Ban Meta seems to be ahead of the game. Since 2021, the two companies, which are each leaders in their respective industries, have been at the forefront of developing smart glasses. Just a few years since its official launch, these specs are now bestsellers in many key eyewear markets. Per EssilorLuxottica CFO Stefano Grassi, this specialty eyewear is responsible for a large chunk of the company’s sales. In fact, they are top-sellers in 60% of all physical Ray-Ban outlets in high-sales locations, like the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
That said, in the spirit of creativity and innovation that both Ray-Ban and Meta are known for, the smart glasses are set for yet another update. Set to be rolled out within the year, this new change comes hot on the heels of their big 2024 AI upgrade. This has many fans buzzing about just how this latest improvement can further elevate the specs and the wearable smart tech scene.
All eyes on Ray-Ban Meta’s game-changing smart specs
In all fairness, the concept of smart glasses is not new. Within the past decade or so alone, many other companies have attempted their own iterations. One infamous example is the now-defunct Google Glass, which was ultimately shelved after consumers found its bulky appearance and niche uses unappealing for the average user. By comparison, the reason why Ray-Ban Meta has ultimately succeeded is because of their mindful execution. Rather than just designed with features that look good on paper, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are made with both realistic fashion and function in mind. For stylish visuals, the frames are designed after some of Ray-Ban’s most famous silhouettes, such as the Wayfarers. With regards to actual usability, the specs have a discreet, ultra-wide 12-megapixel camera and temple-tip speakers. This allows users to capture and consume various forms of content, such as music, calls, and livestreams.
Now in its second generation, the glasses also received a Meta AI update late last year. As announced by Meta leader Mark Zuckerberg, these new features elevated the specs’ virtual assistant capabilities. Now, with just a voice prompt, users can make real-time queries about their surroundings, request reminders, and even ask for language translations. Aside from these, the glasses can now also scan QR codes and have integrations with Audible, Amazon Music, and iHeart.
What Ray-Ban Meta’s new 2025 update may be
Following the aforementioned upgrades, an insider with alleged ties to Ray-Ban Meta told the Wall Street Journal that yet another exciting new technology would be incorporated into the Ray-Ban Metas within 2025. Allegedly, the specs may be getting a single small in-lens screen. This is believed to be linked to the Meta Orion AR glasses, which are hotly anticipated but still in the prototype stage. While the addition of such a display has been a cause for trepidation for some, given how it may affect the sleek silhouette that has made the current model popular, others state that this addition has long been in the works. As early as 2023, the publication The Verge reported on a leak of the Meta internal roadmap, which already included a version of the smart glasses with this display. Should this push through, reports say that the new glasses will come with a sensor wristband to help control the AR applications.
As for how it may be useful, that is still up for speculation. To date, the smart glasses have been most popularly marketed for their ability to better immerse users in their passions. For instance, one popular collaboration was the Ray-Ban Meta for Scuderia Limited Edition smart specs. Designed to feature the racing team’s colors and logo, these glasses were created specifically for fans who wanted to engage more with the F1 world. In celebration of this, the companies even built the Ray-Ban Meta Raceway Wayfarer in Miami Beach. Furthermore, the release of these was timed near Ferrari’s races at the Miami Grand Prix. Just last year, two Ferrari racers finished in second and fifth positions at the Sprint Qualifying session. With the smart glasses, Ray-Ban and Meta posited that fans can not only capture their favorite races from a unique POV, but they can also ask the Meta AI for race-related details, both past and present. Having said this, if unparalleled immersion is still Ray-Ban Meta’s prime priority, then the addition of a display with AR technology may spell more exciting user engagements.
