Miami’s vibrant multicultural backdrop offers a fitting lens through which to appreciate QASIMI’s Autumn/Winter 2025 collection. Creative Director Hoor Al Qasimi continues her mission to use fashion as a platform for global storytelling, this time collaborating with renowned Māori artist Emily Karaka. Known for her evocative works exploring ancestral history, land rights, and the resilience of the Māori people, Karaka’s artistry serves as the cornerstone of QASIMI’s latest collection, which melds art and design to highlight indigenous voices.
The AW25 collection incorporates elements of Karaka’s seminal works, such as He Kakano Ahau, translating their vibrant brushstrokes, symbolic motifs, and powerful messages into wearable art. Signature QASIMI silhouettes—ranging from louche shirts to modular outerwear—receive a tactile upgrade with luxurious jacquards, frayed seams, and intricate embroidery inspired by Karaka’s etchings and words of resistance. These pieces echo Miami’s own fusion of art and culture, mirroring the city’s appreciation for diversity and self-expression.
"The language may differ, but the shared creative vision is unmistakable," Al Qasimi said, referencing Karaka’s narrative of solidarity among oppressed communities. The collection’s earthy palette of browns, sands, and turmeric tones, interspersed with indigo and maroon, evokes both the natural landscapes of Aotearoa (New Zealand) and the sunlit vibrancy of Miami. Modular elements like zips, buttons, and studs further emphasize adaptability, allowing wearers to transform garments into unique expressions of individuality.
This latest collaboration underscores QASIMI’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural connections and uplifting marginalized voices through fashion, creating a collection that speaks not only to the struggles of the Māori people but to indigenous communities worldwide.
