WHAT IS MICHES?
Tucked along the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic in the province of El Seibo, Miches sits within the Marine Mammal Sanctuary Banco de la Plata y la Navidad — one of the Caribbean's most biodiverse and protected marine environments. Stretching across more than 30 miles of coastline on the Emerald Coast (Costa Esmeralda), Miches encompasses golden-sand beaches, pristine lagoons, ancient rainforests, dramatic caves, mangroves, cascading waterfalls, rivers, and panoramic mountain peaks — all virtually untouched by mass tourism.

The destination's character is defined not only by its natural beauty, but by a deliberate, visionary approach to development. Since its founding in 2020, Promiches — the private-sector tourism development association — has worked with government and international investors alike under the guiding principle: apply the lessons learned in other destinations, and do things right from the very beginning. The result is one of the most sustainably planned luxury destinations anywhere in the Caribbean.

The New York Times spotlighted Miches as a top destination for 2026, noting that despite growing international attention, it still retains the feel of a place where visitors can sail or kayak in glassy waters and feel as though they have the open ocean entirely to themselves.

A DESTINATION BUILT ON VISION — THE PROMICHES STORY
The story of Miches as a global tourism destination begins with a bold private-sector commitment. In August 2020, the leading tourism investors of Miches came together to form Promiches — the Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo El Seibo-Miches to guide the destination's development through a shared vision of responsible, high-quality, environmentally conscious growth. In March 2021, this coalition formalized its commitment through the signing of the "Acuerdo Público-Privado para el Desarrollo Turístico de Miches" a landmark public-private agreement that set the framework for sustainable tourism in the region.

Today, Promiches counts 11 member organizations, with seven hotel and real estate projects underway that will collectively add more than 3,000 hotel rooms and residential units — representing over $1 billion USD in total investment and generating approximately 3,500 direct hotel jobs for the local community. A dedicated Environmental Management and Conservation Plan for the Playa Esmeralda hotel zone ensures that every phase of development is conducted with full ecological sensitivity.
