Polestar has been awarded the SMARTBEST 2026 honor by AUTOBEST for its integration of Google Maps live lane guidance into the driver display of the Polestar 4.

The recognition highlights what the jury called “a significant step forward in intelligent onboard navigation and driver assistance technology.” The award focuses on smart connected features that enhance the driving experience, with Polestar’s system standing out among entries evaluated by journalists from 32 European countries.

The innovation places real-time lane guidance directly in the driver display, helping motorists stay in the correct lane during complex highway navigation. The system uses AI to analyze road elements such as lane markings and signs, providing both visual and audio prompts to guide lane changes.

According to the jury statement, “The SMARTBEST 2026 Award goes to Polestar for the integration of Google Maps’ live lane guidance directly into the driver display, debuting on the Polestar 4.”

Michael Lohscheller, who attended the ceremony in Vienna, said the recognition reflects both the company’s engineering efforts and its collaboration with Google. “We are delighted by the AUTOBEST SMARTBEST 2026 award. A well-deserved recognition of the work from our dedicated R&D specialists and a testament to our successful and long-standing partnership with Google,” he said.

Polestar is the first automaker to integrate Google Maps’ live lane guidance directly into a vehicle’s driver display. The feature is part of the company’s broader strategy to continuously enhance its vehicles through over-the-air software updates.

The technology is set to roll out in 2026, initially in the United States and Sweden, with plans to expand to additional markets and road types.

In South Florida, Polestar Miami serves as the brand’s regional showroom and service hub, offering test drives and customer support.
