Description

The DUAL pavilion, designed by Pininfarina and manufactured in collaboration with Alpha Additive, explores the harmony between intuition and computation, emotion and reason, art and science. Presented at Alcova Miami—the international platform returning to the historic Miami River Inn during Miami Art Week 2025—the pavilion appears within a quiet oasis where site-specific installations invite discovery and contemplation. Its fluid, monocoque exterior expresses a human, poetic gesture: a form shaped “as if from clay,” guided by imagination and emotion. In contrast, the parametric interior reveals algorithmic intelligence, material performance, and environmental responsiveness.

Together, these forces propose a design philosophy in which artistry and engineering converge rather than compete. Crafted from recycled car tires, DUAL transforms a byproduct of consumption into a symbol of renewal, suggesting that the same technologies capable of harm can also support repair. As both environmental and political statement, DUAL argues that resilience emerges through synergy—leadership and participation, creativity and computation, vision and data. Rooted in Pininfarina’s legacy of aerodynamic elegance and innovation, the pavilion affirms design as a cultural catalyst, shaping not only form but futures.
