Patek Philippe has introduced the Grand Complications 5178G-012, a new minute repeater that combines traditional watchmaking with the brand’s Rare Handcrafts collection. Crafted in white gold, the timepiece features a hand-guilloched Grand Feu enamel dial and a self-winding movement equipped with two cathedral gongs designed to produce a deeper, richer chime.
The latest addition to Patek Philippe’s Grand Complications collection showcases several of the Geneva manufacture’s signature decorative techniques. Its dial begins with a hand-guilloched swirling pattern engraved into an 18K gold base before being covered with translucent midnight blue Grand Feu enamel using the flinqué enameling technique. White gold Breguet numerals and matching hands complete the design.
Inside the 40 mm polished white gold case is the self-winding R 27 PS caliber, featuring a minute repeater with two cathedral gongs, small seconds and a 22K gold guilloched mini-rotor. The cathedral gongs are longer than traditional gongs, allowing them to produce a more resonant and sustained sound when the minute repeater is activated.
The watch is delivered with two alligator leather straps: a shiny peacock blue strap with cream stitching fitted as standard and an additional shiny orange strap with blue stitching. Both are paired with a white gold fold-over clasp.
