Panerai Brings “The Depths of Time” Exhibition to Miami Design District — Now Until January 5, 2026

Panerai is presenting “The Depths of Time”, an exhibition that explores the brand’s long-classified origins, at Casa Panerai on Madison Avenue in New York. The presentation, which opened on October 9, 2025, follows its debut in Florence and it is running at Miami Design District until January 5, 2026. The exhibition invites visitors to examine how the company shifted from a confidential supplier to the Royal Italian Navy into a public-facing watchmaker in 1993.

The display focuses on Panerai’s early technical developments—luminescence, water resistance, power reserve innovations, and robust case construction—showing how these features evolved into the design language associated with the brand today. The exhibition includes archival documents, correspondence between the Panerai family and the Marina Militare, technical drawings, early catalogues, historic photographs, and instruments such as compasses and depth gauges. These materials contextualize the company’s early work in underwater operations and military instrumentation.

A central narrative moment revisits the 1993 unveiling aboard the destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne (D560), attended by Duke Amedeo d’Aosta. That event marked Panerai’s transition from restricted military use to the civilian market. The exhibition concludes with the recently launched Luminor Marina Militare PAM05218, a model inspired by the original Luminor references introduced during that 1993 milestone.

The PAM05218 is a reinterpretation of the historic Luminor ref. 5218-202/A, originally produced for Marina Militare personnel. It maintains the 44mm case diameter that distinguished the 1993 reference from earlier 47mm models. The new edition features a DLC-coated steel case, recalling the original PVD finish, and continues the brand’s approach to stripped-down, functional aesthetics. The watch is driven by the hand-wound P.6000 calibre with a three-day power reserve.

The dial revives several traits from the 1993 model, including the “Marina Militare” inscription and a monolayer matte-black construction engraved and filled with Super-LumiNova. Panerai has recreated the historic “non-matching” look—caramel-colored numerals paired with lighter hands—once caused by chemical reactions in early tritium dials and now considered a collectible feature. The caseback retains the Officine Panerai Firenze markings seen on the original. A gold-brown calf leather strap with a DLC buckle and an additional black rubber strap accompany the watch.

The PAM05218 will be available in boutiques starting September 2025 and can be requested directly through Panerai.
