Palazzo Ripetta: Where History, Art & Contemporary Luxury Meet in Rome

My stay at Palazzo Ripetta reminded me that Rome is much more than a city of famous landmarks. Around every corner are layers of history, from ancient Roman ruins and Renaissance palaces to Baroque churches and remarkable works of art. Whether you spend your day visiting the Pantheon, tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, or strolling through Villa Borghese, the city constantly reveals another story.

History Meets Hospitality

Palazzo Ripetta reflects that same spirit. Housed in a building dating back to 1642, the property began as a shelter and school for women and girls before being transformed into a hotel during the 1960s under the direction of renowned Italian architect Luigi Moretti. Today, the family-owned five-star hotel blends its historic roots with contemporary design and an impressive private art collection.

Located in Rome's Campo Marzio neighborhood, the hotel is within walking distance of the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza del Popolo, and Villa Borghese, making it an excellent base for exploring the Eternal City on foot.

Art & Design

The moment I entered the lobby, I was welcomed by Arnaldo Pomodoro's monumental bronze sculpture, Sphere Within Sphere. It immediately set the tone for what followed: a thoughtful blend of history, contemporary art, and warm Italian hospitality.

Just beyond the entrance, I found one of my favorite spaces in the hotel. The elegant lounge and library combine Neo-Art Deco architecture with touches that reminded me of Hollywood Regency style. White walls and light marble floors contrast beautifully with black lacquer details, jewel-toned velvet seating, gold accents, and an illuminated library filled with art books and carefully selected decorative objects. It is an inviting space whether you're reading, having a coffee, or simply taking a break from sightseeing.

Rooms & Suites

Although Palazzo Ripetta offers 78 rooms, including 21 suites, the hotel maintains an intimate atmosphere. My room combined classic Roman elegance with modern comforts through soft pastel tones, herringbone oak floors, custom millwork, and refined furnishings.

Sage blue-green walls, teal fabrics, gold accents, and a crystal chandelier created a sophisticated yet welcoming space. I also appreciated the Frette linens, elegant wallpaper, and carefully selected decorative accessories that made the room feel residential rather than hotel-like.

Historic Spaces

One of the biggest surprises during my stay was discovering that Palazzo Ripetta is home to the 18th-century Salone Bernini. Originally consecrated as the Conservatory's church by Pope Benedict XIII, the space is now used for weddings, events, and special occasions.

Before leaving, be sure to look up. The ceiling features Giacomo Triga's fresco The Triumph of Divine Providence, one of the property's most remarkable historical treasures.

Another unexpected discovery awaits in the hotel's central courtyard, Piazzetta Ripetta. Surrounded by citrus trees and lush greenery, it became one of my favorite places to relax, especially during breakfast. Hidden in plain sight is a rare third-century Roman sarcophagus that has been transformed into an elegant fountain, another reminder that history is woven into nearly every corner of Rome.

Dining

Breakfast each morning offered everything I expect from a five-star hotel, with an extensive selection of fresh pastries, fruits, breads, cheeses, hot dishes, and Italian specialties.

San Baylon Restaurant presents a contemporary interpretation of traditional Italian cuisine using seasonal ingredients, while the Lobby Bar provides an elegant setting for a cocktail or afternoon aperitivo.

For panoramic views over Rome, I highly recommend visiting Etere, the hotel's rooftop bar and bistro. It is an ideal place to unwind after a day exploring the city while taking in the rooftops of the Eternal City.

Wellness & Services

Although compact, the fitness center is fully equipped and overlooks the peaceful courtyard. Guests also have access to wellness treatments, personal training sessions, cooking and wine tasting experiences, concierge services, private transfers, babysitting, laundry service, and 24-hour room service.

The hotel also features five meeting rooms equipped with modern technology, along with the courtyard and terrace spaces, making it well suited for corporate events, weddings, and private celebrations.

A Sustainable Stay

Palazzo Ripetta has also demonstrated a commitment to sustainability by earning the internationally recognized Green Key certification, one of the hospitality industry's leading environmental certifications.

Practical Information

During my stay, I appreciated the attentive service and the hotel's central location, which allowed me to explore much of Rome on foot. Whether I was walking to Piazza del Popolo, Villa Borghese, the Pantheon, or the Trevi Fountain, I rarely needed transportation. Concierge services are available around the clock and can assist with restaurant reservations, private transfers, guided tours, and customized experiences throughout Rome.
