Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) will present Woody De Othello’s first solo museum exhibition in his hometown, coming forth by day, opening November 13, 2025. The exhibition features an entirely new body of work, including hand-built sculptures, mosaic wall pieces, and a large-scale bronze sculpture. Exploring the relationship between body, earth, and spirit, the immersive installation incorporates grounding materials such as clay-painted walls and subtle herbal scents.

The presentation will remain on view throughout Miami Art Week, including during PAMM Presents: Art Bashment on Thursday, December 4.
“Recognizing the artist’s personal ties to Miami, we are particularly delighted to host Woody De Othello’s first significant museum presentation and to share his striking sensibility with audiences near and far,” said Franklin Sirmans, Sandra and Tony Tamer Director at PAMM. “His work is a powerful reminder of how organic materials in the present can deeply resonate with vernacular and folk cultures across time.”
Born in Miami in 1991 and now based in Oakland, Othello is known for his distinctive anthropomorphic sculptures that animate everyday objects—such as fans, faucets, and telephones—with emotion and spirit. His forms, often stretching or leaning as if alive, explore transformation, memory, and vulnerability. coming forth by day marks an evolution in his practice, deepening his engagement with diasporic spirituality and metaphysical symbolism.
The exhibition’s title references the ancient Egyptian funerary text The Book of Coming Forth by Day, also known as The Egyptian Book of the Dead. Othello draws on this mythology as a metaphor for renewal, using clay and bronze to construct a meditative space that bridges the physical and spiritual realms.
Organized by Jennifer Inacio, PAMM Curator, with the support of Fabiana A. Sotillo, Curatorial Assistant, Woody De Othello: coming forth by day is presented with lead support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and sponsorship from Goldman Sachs. Additional support is provided by the Wagner Foundation, Leslie and Greg Ferrero, and Rona and Jeff Citrin.
Following its debut at PAMM, the exhibition will travel to the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at the University of California, Davis, in fall 2026.
