Oscar de la Renta Launches Pre-Spring 2022 Collection
Escape. Whether a real-life getaway or a mere departure from the ordinary, an escape brings vitality to the human spirit. This is the essence of the Oscar de la Renta Pre-Spring 2022 collection, offering a reprieve from the virtual and elevating us into a brighter reality.
The collection is inspired by the beauty of the outdoors, opening with floral prints born in the gardens of New York-based landscape architect Miranda Brooks. A scattering of blossoms is superimposed on printed panoramas of silk faille, and delicate tulle serves as the backdrop for crystalized flowers embroidered in three-dimensional splendor.
Electric colors citrine, sky blue, emerald, and fuchsia ombré are boldly expressed in both daywear and evening wear. Drawn from the boulder sculptures by swiss-born mixed-media artist Ugo Rondinone, they are a powerful reflection of his fluorescently painted totems stacked high in the Nevada desert. Voluminous statement sleeves play on proportions by punctuating short dresses. Ruched and pressed taffeta delivers a couture-level impression. And brightly hued gowns in draped chiffon and tulle afford a relaxed and fluid silhouette.
The ultimate drama of the collection is presented in dresses resplendent with metallic sequins which, rendered in copper, silver, and gold, are hand-applied over imperceptible organza. Variety abounds, ranging from a fitted strapless bodice to sleeves that graze the elbow and wrist from thigh-high hemlines to asymmetrical tea length. Tendrils of garden flowers, another inspiration from Miranda brooks, appear to float on the body and define the feminine mystique.
