The New World Symphony marks a busy week with a major concert presentation, career milestones for its fellows and alumni, and an upcoming anniversary for its Miami Beach home.

On Saturday, January 10, the New World Symphony returned to the Adrienne Arsht Center with an evening of jazz works for orchestra. The program featured Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, performed with the Marcus Roberts Trio and full orchestra, blending orchestral writing with improvisation. Andrew Grams conducted the performance, which also included Duke Ellington’s jazz reinterpretation of The Nutcracker Suite and his symphonic work Black, Brown and Beige.

The organization also shared a mid-season update recognizing fellows and alumni who have accepted new positions since July as the New World Symphony reaches the midpoint of its 38th season. Alumni and current fellows have secured roles across the United States and abroad, continuing their professional development beyond Miami Beach.

Later this month, the New World Center will celebrate its 15th anniversary. Designed by Frank Gehry, the venue opened on January 25, 2011, and has since served as the primary performance and training space for the New World Symphony. To mark the occasion, the organization released a blog series reflecting on key moments in the center’s history, available through the New World Symphony’s anniversary coverage.
