New World Symphony has announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Howard Herring will retire on June 30, 2026, after more than 25 years in the role.

Appointed in 2001, Herring has led the institution through a period of operational expansion, increased community engagement, digital innovation and sustained financial stability, serving for most of the organization’s 38-year history.

Reflecting on his tenure, Herring said that the organization can be proud of its accomplishments as educators and artistic leaders, pointing to initiatives that aimed to broaden access to classical music through performance, digital projects and community partnerships, as well as the impact of the orchestra’s 1,330 alumni in ensembles, orchestras, faculties and communities around the world.
