New World Symphony Launches Pre-Season Chamber Concert on September 26
The New World Symphony will present a pre-season chamber music concert on Saturday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m., featuring new and returning Fellows in a program of 20th and 21st century works.
The concert, titled "Shostakovich + Stravinsky's Chamber Symphonies," highlights the range of orchestral voices within the ensemble. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony incorporates quotations from his earlier compositions and uses musical ciphers of his own name as part of an autobiographical lament dedicated to victims of war.
The program also includes Steve Reich’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Double Sextet, which the composer has described as "a sort of rock and roll piece," underscoring the rhythmic drive and contemporary character of the work.

The pre-season event comes as the orchestra prepares to welcome 32 new Fellows, who will join 55 returning musicians to begin the 2026-27 season under Artistic Director Stéphane Denève.
