Moda Perú USA's Fashion Show in Miami Celebrates Peruvian Design and Cultural Heritage
In a vibrant celebration for Peruvian Independence Day, the Peruvian Consulate in Miami proudly participated in the second edition of “Moda Perú USA,” held at the historic Ancient Spanish Monastery in North Miami Beach. The event brought together a dynamic blend of fashion, culture, and diplomacy, highlighting the rich heritage and modern influence of Peruvian aesthetics on the global stage.

The centerpiece of the event was a stunning fashion show that featured the latest collections from some of the most renowned figures in Peruvian fashion, including José Zafra, Kené Kaya, Meche Correa, Illari Souvenirs, and Ali Rapp, each piece resonating with the essence of Peruvian artistry and craftsmanship.
Indigenous ethical fashion brand Kené Kaya, founded by Peruvian designer Alessandra Durand, opened the event In a stunning showcase of cultural heritage and fashion innovation, with the unveiling of her latest collection named "Arte y Agencia."
“The ‘Arte y Agencia’ collection is a testament to the transformative power of indigenous textile art as active agents of change,” explained Alessandra. The collection featured hand-painted textile art from the Shipibo-Conibo of the Peruvian Amazon, seamlessly integrated with artisan-made accessories and hats from various regions of Peru. Durand's designs offered an elegant blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary fashion, true to her commitment to cultural preservation and social impact.
"Our collection, 'Arte y Agencia,' is a tribute to the incredible artistry and cultural significance of Peruvian indigenous communities from the Amazon," said Alessandra. "By integrating these traditional crafts into contemporary fashion, we aim to highlight the beauty and importance of cultural preservation and social change."
The event was held as part of the festivities for Peruvian Independence Day and drew an impressive crowd of dignitaries, business leaders, and fashion enthusiasts. The fashion show was attended by officials from the city of North Miami Beach, consuls, and representatives from the consulates of Ecuador, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Bangladesh.
The show also included a special collection by Giannina Azar, a renowned Dominican designer celebrated for her contributions to the U.S. film industry.
David Vergara, the new Consulate General of Peru in Miami, closed the event recognizing the participating designers, emphasizing the global influence of Peruvian aesthetics in international fashion.
