Miami Open 2024: Game Changers with Wheelchair Tennis & Major League Pickleball Debut



In addition to hosting the prestigious annual top-tier tennis event, the 2024 Miami Open presented by Itaú is set to introduce an esteemed Wheelchair Tennis Tournament and the inaugural Major League Pickleball (MLP) All-Star Tournament, marking a historic milestone for a Masters 1000 series event.


The Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, slated for March 26 – 28, will welcome all ticket holders to witness this inclusive competition. Originating in the 1992 Paralympics in Barcelona, wheelchair tennis has since become a staple at all four Grand Slams since 2007.


Guiding this tournament as director is Shingo Kunieda, a four-time Paralympic gold medalist and holder of 28 major singles titles. Among the esteemed players to grace the court are Great Britain’s Gordon Reid and Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez, alongside other notable contenders.


Pickleball, a sport experiencing exponential growth in the United States, will be showcased at the 2024 Miami Open through the Major League Pickleball (MLP) All-Star Tournament, scheduled from March 27 – 29. Open to all ticketholders, this tournament will feature 16 of the top MLP professionals engaging in round-robin pool play and three thrilling playoff matches.


Furthermore, fans can anticipate MLP stars teaming up with celebrities in a Pro-Am round-robin tournament and a Pro-Am team exhibition match.


The 2024 Miami Open tournament, spanning from March 17 – 31, will spotlight the Wheelchair Tennis Tournament on March 26 – 28 and the Major League Pickleball (MLP) All-Star Tournament on March 27 – 29, offering a special fusion of athleticism and inclusivity.
