The Miami-Dade County Office of Community Advocacy has issued a public greeting in observance of Juneteenth, recognizing the federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
The message, distributed by email from the county office based in downtown Miami, extends Juneteenth wishes to residents and highlights the continued importance of reflecting on freedom, equality, and civil rights.
Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when news of emancipation reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
