Miami Voters to Decide Future of Miami Marine Stadium in August 18, 2026 Referendum

Miami voters will decide the future of the historic Miami Marine Stadium during the City of Miami election on August 18, 2026. The referendum asks residents whether to approve a management agreement that would allow Global Spectrum, an Oak View Group company, to operate the waterfront venue in partnership with Breakwater Hospitality Group.

Built in 1963 on Virginia Key, the Miami Marine Stadium closed following Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and has remained largely unused for more than three decades. Supporters of the referendum say restoring the landmark would preserve one of Miami's most recognizable waterfront structures while creating a destination for cultural events, recreation, and public gatherings.

The proposed restoration aims to transform the stadium into a year-round waterfront venue hosting concerts, festivals, community events, and other activities. Advocates also point to the potential economic benefits, noting that tourism remains a major driver of Miami-Dade County's economy.

The referendum centers on whether the City should move forward with the proposed operating agreement, which would give Global Spectrum, an Oak View Group company, and its local partner, Breakwater Hospitality Group, responsibility for restoring, activating, and managing the venue if approved by voters.

Miami residents eligible to vote in the August 18 election will determine the next chapter for the long-shuttered waterfront landmark.
