Miami Design District April 2026 Event Recap: Zine Fair, Cash & Rocket, and More
This past April, the Miami Design District (MDD) hosted a dynamic series of free, public events that celebrated independent publishing, art history, and global philanthropy. From interactive art fairs to a striking automotive rally, here is a look back at the neighborhood's standout programming from the month.
Miami Zine Fair
On Saturday, April 4, Paradise Plaza transformed into a vibrant platform for creative exchange with the return of the Miami Zine Fair. The free, public celebration of self-publishing and independent print culture brought together more than 150 artists, writers, illustrators, activists, and poets. Guests enjoyed a dynamic mix of new zine releases, hands-on workshops, installations, and artist-led programs throughout the afternoon.
Katy Hessel Talk & Book Signing
Dale Zine hosted renowned art historian and author Katy Hessel on Tuesday, April 7. Hessel, the creator of the popular Instagram account @thegreatwomenartists and author of the bestseller The Story of Art without Men, led an engaging discussion. Attendees gathered to hear insights from her extensive career interviewing artists and writers, followed by a dedicated book signing session.
Public Art Tours
Throughout the month, the Miami Design District offered guided walking tours exploring the history of the art and architecture that characterize the area. Held on April 11 and April 25, the tours began in Palm Court and led guests through the neighborhood's iconic outdoor installations. Highlights of the tour included Buckminster Fuller’s Fly's Eye Dome, Virgil Abloh’s Dollar a Gallon, and Criola’s Interdimensional Portal.
Cash & Rocket US Tour 2026
On Sunday, April 26, the 2026 CASH & ROCKET Rally culminated its four-day journey with a grand finale in the Miami Design District. Thirty iconic red cars, driven by 60 inspirational women, arrived along NE 41st Street after traveling down the coast from Charleston. The striking visual installation was complemented by curated shopping, a live DJ, and a hosted lunch. Since 2012, the rally has raised over $6.6 million for charities; this year's efforts supported organizations including Style Saves, Impact Charleston, and Sumbandila.
