Miami-Dade Seeks Artists for Landmark Garage Artwork at Miami International Airport
The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs’ Art in Public Places program, in partnership with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, is requesting qualifications from professional artists interested in a major public art commission at Miami International Airport.
The project calls for a landmark cladding and screening artwork that will span the existing Dolphin and Flamingo Garages and the newly built Ibis Garage, creating a cohesive visual identity at the airport for years to come. The selected artist or artist team will be asked to propose distinctive artistic applications that enhance these utilitarian structures and engage employees, travelers and passers-by.
Shortlisted artists will receive a proposal stipend and travel allowance to participate in an in-depth concept development phase with Art in Public Places, the aviation department and the project’s architectural and engineering consultants. The commissioned artist will be expected to serve as a member of the garages project team for at least four years, while the selected general contractor will fabricate and install the final design.
