Miami-Dade Seeks Artist for Landmark Parking Garage Artwork at MIA
Miami-Dade County’s Art in Public Places program and the Miami-Dade Aviation Department have opened a qualifications call for artists to design a major cladding and screening artwork for three parking garages at Miami International Airport.
The project will span the existing Dolphin and Flamingo Garages and the newly built Ibis Garage at Miami International Airport, creating a unified visual identity for the complex that is expected to remain in place for decades.
Selected artists will be shortlisted to develop full proposals for original artwork applications that respond to the garages’ utilitarian character and engage employees, visitors and passers-by. Each shortlisted artist will receive a proposal stipend and travel allowance to take part in a concept development phase with Art in Public Places, the aviation department and the project’s architectural and engineering teams.
The commissioned artist will join the garages project team for at least four years while the design is integrated into construction, with fabrication and installation carried out by the project’s general contractor.
