The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs is seeking qualifications from professional visual artists based in South Florida for a series of public art commissions at the new Integrated Command and Communications Center at the Lightspeed facility. The application deadline is Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11:59 PM.

The project, part of Miami-Dade County’s long standing Art in Public Places Program, includes commissions for both the interior spaces and a pedestrian bridge at the facility. The Lightspeed campus will serve as a central hub for emergency response and disaster management operations. The total project budget is $700,000.
Eligible applicants must be professional visual artists currently residing in South Florida. Interested artists are encouraged to submit their qualifications online through the program's official website.
This opportunity comes as the Miami-Dade Art in Public Places Program marks its 50th anniversary. Since its establishment in 1973, the program has allocated 1.5% of the capital cost of new county buildings for public art commissions, making it one of the earliest programs of its kind in the U.S.
The Art in Public Places Trust, along with its Professional Advisory Committee, oversees project selection and implementation. This initiative supports the county’s broader mission of fostering cultural excellence, diversity, and public engagement across its communities.
