Cabrera Joins CFO Patronis & Local Officials in a Press Conference on Home Hardening Tax Exemption
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera joined Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis and local elected officials at PGT Innovations, a Florida-based manufacturer of impact-resistant building products, for a press conference highlighting the Home Hardening Tax Exemption Initiative, the expansion of the My Safe Florida Home Program, and the newly passed Insurer Accountability legislation on Tuesday, May 9.
CFO Patronis emphasized the significance of readiness for the approaching hurricane season and showcased the Home Hardening Tax Exemption Initiative, enabling Florida homeowners to fortify their homes against storms and save money on insurance premiums.
CFO Patronis also discussed the expansion of the My Safe Florida Home Program and the newly passed Insurer Accountability legislation.
“Living in Florida, storms are just a fact of life, and I encourage all Floridians to harden their homes before hurricane season begins.
The Home Hardening Tax Exemption is the perfect opportunity to save while installing impact-resistant items like doors, windows, and garage doors.
A huge thank you to the CFO for bringing awareness to this important tax savings,” said Commissioner Cabrera.
In 2023, the Florida Legislature enacted legislation that pertains to the My Safe Florida Home Program, broadening eligibility requirements to enable more Floridians to safeguard their homes against storms and minimize insurance premiums.
Further, the Legislature increased grant funding by an additional $100 million, totaling $250 million in funding.
Coupled with the savings from the Home Hardening Tax Exemption Initiative, the sum of over $700 million in consumer relief provides significant savings for Floridian residents to protect their homes from storms.
