Miami-Dade Calls for Artists to Design Landmark Garage Façade at MIA
The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs’ Art in Public Places program and the Miami-Dade AviaVtion Department have issued a call for qualifications from artists to design a large-scale garage cladding and screening artwork at Miami International Airport.
The project will span the existing Dolphin and Flamingo Garages as well as the newly built Ibis Garage, creating a cohesive visual identity for the airport that is expected to remain in place for decades. The selected artist or artist team will be asked to develop unique artwork applications that enhance the appearance of these utilitarian structures and engage employees, travelers and passersby.
Shortlisted artists will receive a proposal stipend and travel allowance to participate in an in-depth concept development phase with Art in Public Places, the aviation department and the project’s architectural and engineering consultants. The commissioned artist is expected to serve as part of the garages project team for at least four years, while fabrication and installation of the final design will be carried out by the project’s general contractor.
