Miami Beach Approves $12 Million Lincoln Road and Beachwalk Revitalization Project

The Miami Beach City Commission has unanimously approved a major revitalization project for the 100-300 blocks of Lincoln Road and the adjacent Beachwalk entrance. The $12 million redevelopment is spearheaded by Sobe Sky Development, owners of The Ritz-Carlton South Beach, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, and The Sagamore Hotel. The project received additional support from Miami Beach City Commissioner Alex Fernandez and State Representative Vicki Lopez.

The agreement includes funding contributions from the State of Florida ($4.85 million), the City of Miami Beach ($4 million), and a $4 million private investment by Sobe Sky Development. The revitalization effort aims to enhance pedestrian safety, improve traffic circulation, and create a more inviting and vibrant urban corridor that connects Lincoln Road’s pedestrian shopping district to the beach.

“This project is a vital step toward restoring safety, vibrancy, and positive activity to Lincoln Road,” said Commissioner Alex Fernandez. “It will be the premier gateway to the Beachwalk and beaches, reflecting the beauty and spirit of Miami Beach.”

The phased plan, designed by Andres Arcila of Naturalficial, envisions transforming Lincoln Road into a “grand concourse” with lush landscaping, public art installations, and a Lapidus-inspired gateway monument serving as a landmark entrance. The design aims to realize the historic vision of connecting Lincoln Road from “bay to sea,” enhancing both aesthetic appeal and functional access for pedestrians.

Key features include an artwalk showcasing local public art, street redesign to improve vehicle flow and pedestrian safety, and a serene “mini park” at the Beachwalk entrance on Collins Avenue, which is the busiest pedestrian beach access in Miami Beach, with over 7,000 daily crossings.

In addition to the 100 block redevelopment, Sobe Sky is advancing plans to revitalize the 200 and 300 blocks of Lincoln Road, including pedestrianization initiatives and negotiations with Dade County to reroute traffic and bus lines.

Peter Kanavos, Senior Vice President of Flag Luxury Group and co-owner of Sobe Sky Development, highlighted the project’s importance: “This public-private partnership represents one of the most significant investments in Miami Beach’s urban core in over a decade. It supports the city’s economic development strategy to attract new businesses, residents, and cultural tourism.”

The revitalization project marks a renewed commitment to preserving the legacy of Lincoln Road as an iconic Miami Beach destination, blending modern urban design with historic charm.
