Miami 305 Half Marathon And 5K: Empowering Youth Through Fitness

Participants in the 2025 Baptist Health 305 Half Marathon and 5K will have the opportunity to make an impact far beyond the finish line by joining Team Zara. Scheduled for March 2, 2025, the event will raise funds for Zara’s Center, an after-school safe haven for vulnerable children in Emganwini, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Founded in 2007 by the Betsy Hotel ownership family, Zara’s Center serves over 125 children aged 5-18, most of whom face significant challenges, including the loss of one or both parents and living in extreme poverty. The center provides essential resources such as daily meals, academic support, medical care, and artistic development. It also pays school fees for children, as public education in Zimbabwe is not free.

Recently, Zara’s Center has expanded its campus to include an agriculture program, teaching children how to grow food and raise chickens to promote sustainability and generate income for the center.

The Betsy Hotel has covered registration fees for Team Zara participants, who are encouraged to raise $500 for the 5K or $1,000 for the half marathon through sponsorships. Participants will also compete for prizes based on their fundraising efforts.

Deborah Briggs, a representative of Zara’s Center, invites individuals to join the team and spread the word. “We are thrilled to combine community fitness with a mission to support the children of Zara’s Center,” Briggs said.
