Matthew McConaughey and Olymp

Miami Living Magazine welcomes Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey to its new cover and introduces OLYMP, the German menswear brand bringing a fresh perspective to modern men's fashion.

Matthew McConaughey has never been particularly interested in following the crowd. Whether he's playing an unconventional character, building a business, or enjoying life away from Hollywood, the Texas-born actor has developed a reputation for doing things his own way.

That easygoing confidence is part of what makes him such an interesting personality. It's also what caught the attention of OLYMP, a German fashion company that has spent 75 years perfecting men's clothing.

For American readers unfamiliar with the name, OLYMP is hardly a newcomer. Founded in 1951, the family-owned business has become one of Germany's leading shirt brands, with products sold in more than 40 countries. Now, with McConaughey as its international brand ambassador, OLYMP is introducing a more relaxed approach to menswear while building on the craftsmanship that made it successful.

And there's an interesting story behind the partnership.

Why Matthew McConaughey?

McConaughey officially joined OLYMP as its brand ambassador in January 2025. The collaboration continued in 2026 with a new campaign photographed in Los Angeles by renowned fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti.

For OLYMP CEO and owner Mark Bezner, the decision wasn't simply about working with a Hollywood celebrity.

"After meeting in Los Angeles over the last summer it became clear that we share the same values," Bezner explained when the partnership was announced. "We took an instant liking to each other and quickly agreed on working together."

Those shared interests include family, philanthropy, sports, and an active lifestyle.

McConaughey, of course, needs little introduction. His career took off with Dazed and Confused in 1993, followed by A Time to Kill, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Interstellar. His performance in Dallas Buyers Club earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2014.

But his life outside Hollywood is equally interesting. He's an entrepreneur, a co-owner of Major League Soccer's Austin FC, and a dedicated philanthropist. Together with his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey, he also launched Pantalones Organic Tequila.

For Bezner, these interests help explain why the actor fits the brand.

"Matthew McConaughey and OLYMP are a perfect fit. Just like our products," he said in the company's 2026 campaign announcement.

It's an appealing combination: a recognizable American personality introducing an established European brand to a broader international audience.

From a Small Laundry Room to an International Fashion Brand

OLYMP's history begins in 1951 in Bietigheim, a town near Stuttgart, Germany.

Its founder, Eugen Bezner, started making men's shirts with just six employees, working from the laundry room of his home. In postwar Germany, materials were not always easy to obtain, so the company's earliest shirts were made using available military fabrics and even parachute silk.

Bezner wanted to produce exceptionally well-made shirts. He chose the name OLYMP, inspired by Mount Olympus, to represent his ambition for the company.

What began as a small operation gradually developed into a family business with international reach.

After Eugen’s death in 1960, his 24-year-old son, Eberhard Bezner, took over the company. Under his leadership, OLYMP expanded its production and developed the products that would establish its reputation.

The next generation followed when Mark Bezner, Eugen's grandson, joined the business in 1990. He became a member of the management board in 1995 and eventually assumed leadership of the company.

Today, OLYMP remains headquartered in Bietigheim-Bissingen. According to its published company figures, it has approximately 860 employees across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, more than 3,000 points of sale throughout Europe, and over 50 branded stores in those three countries.

The company also has a significant international business, with exports accounting for approximately 35 percent of its operations.

For a brand that started in a laundry room, that's quite an evolution.

What Makes OLYMP Clothing Different?

If there's one product that helped establish OLYMP's reputation, it's the dress shirt.

Its best-known collection, OLYMP Luxor, became particularly successful during the 1990s because of a feature that many men can appreciate: shirts designed to look polished without requiring ironing.

Made from 100 percent cotton, the Luxor line combines the familiar feel of a traditional business shirt with an easy-care finish intended to help it retain a neat appearance after washing.

It was a practical innovation at a time when business attire was still largely defined by formal shirts and suits.

But men's wardrobes have changed considerably since then.

Today, a man might wear a tailored shirt to a business meeting, a polo to lunch, and something comfortable enough for travel or an evening out. The distinctions between business clothing and casualwear have become less rigid.

OLYMP has adapted accordingly.

In 2020, OLYMP introduced its 24/Seven collection, combining the comfort and flexibility of a T-shirt with the polished appearance of a traditional shirt. The collection reflects a growing preference for clothing that looks smart without feeling overly formal. Today, OLYMP offers a complete wardrobe, including casual shirts, knitwear, polo shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, trousers, jackets, and accessories. Its premium SIGNATURE collection, launched in 2017, places greater emphasis on refined fabrics and craftsmanship.

A New Direction for OLYMP

McConaughey's arrival comes as OLYMP moves beyond its reputation as a shirt specialist to establish itself as a broader lifestyle brand. The company is expanding its collections and reaching younger consumers while maintaining its established customer base. McConaughey's relaxed personal style makes him a natural fit for this direction.

The partnership is already showing promising results. In February 2026, OLYMP reported increased brand recognition and consumer awareness, with McConaughey's campaigns generating the company's strongest social media engagement and accounting for more than half of its digital branding campaign impressions.

While these findings come from OLYMP's own research rather than independent sales data, they suggest the collaboration is helping introduce the brand to a wider audience.

Fashion With a Sense of Responsibility

Another connection between McConaughey and OLYMP is their commitment to social responsibility. The actor and his wife founded the just keep livin Foundation, which supports more than 3,500 high school students across 52 schools in 23 U.S. cities through fitness, nutrition, wellness, and community service programs.

OLYMP shares a similar commitment through its membership in the Fair Wear Foundation, which promotes better working conditions in the garment industry. In 2021, the company also introduced its Green Choice initiative to identify products meeting specific environmental standards, including the use of certified materials and manufacturing processes.

While their initiatives focus on different areas, both McConaughey and OLYMP have made social and environmental responsibility an important part of their identities.

Could OLYMP Be Coming to America?

With Matthew McConaughey as the face of its international advertising, could OLYMP eventually enter the U.S. market? While the company has made no public announcements regarding American expansion, it continues to strengthen its presence across Europe, particularly in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and France. As OLYMP celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2026, the partnership brings new attention to a family business that began with just six employees and has grown into an international menswear brand.

But what makes Matthew McConaughey such an interesting partner for OLYMP goes far beyond his Hollywood fame or personal style. His journey from a small Texas town to international stardom is filled with unexpected decisions, remarkable adventures, and a philosophy on life that might surprise you. Here's a closer look at the man behind the familiar face.
