Magnitude seized the early lead and never relinquished it to win the 45th running of the $2 million Stephen Foster (Grade I) at Churchill Downs, finishing 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Grade I Pennsylvania Derby winner Baeza.

Billed as a "Summer Showdown" for North America’s top older horses, the Stephen Foster brought together Dubai World Cup (Grade I) winner Magnitude and a deep field of rivals in one of the signature events of the Churchill Downs summer meet.

Jockey Jose Ortiz guided Magnitude to victory, his fourth stakes win on the card, for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen and owner-breeder Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC.

The performance closed an eventful Stephen Foster Stakes Day and helped turn attention toward the upcoming Kentucky Derby 153 at Churchill Downs, where anticipation is already building for the next chapter in the track’s racing calendar.
