Earth Day is Every Day for Shoe Designer Daniella Shevel

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

Daniella Shevel is dedicated to cultivating a new way of thinking about the intersection of luxury, design, comfort, sustainability, and sophistication when it comes to shoe design. As the Founder, Designer, and CEO of her eponymous luxury, handcrafted label– she is constantly thinking of the future of both women and the planet.

“We are dedicated to the development of high-quality investment pieces that embrace social responsibility and sustainability. Our pieces are made to last so that you can buy less, buy better, and get more wear from your shoes for years to come. Through small batch production we don't over produce, minimizing waste that ends up in our landfills. It’s necessary that as an industry we collectively set new and better standards to offset the environmental and social impacts of the fashion system. 300 million pairs of shoes are estimated to end up in our landfills each year in the U.S. On the other hand, the number of children around the world who have never owned a pair of shoes is about 300 million. To encourage upcycling and reducing waste in our landfills we offer a $50 credit for any pairs (from any brand) donated to Soles4Souls. We also choose to work with factory partners in Italy and Brazil who uphold high standards when it comes to craftsmanship, living wages, high-quality production, and good working conditions.” – Daniella Shevel

Daniella Shevel also offers styles in both vegan leather and natural leather, the latter of which is 100% a by-product of the meat industry. By principle, the brand does not use any exotic skins or leathers either. Daniella also partners with EcoCart and empowers her community to make orders 100% carbon neutral for a nominal fee at checkout. These purchases support environmental projects, like wind and solar farms that create clean energy, or protecting trees that would otherwise be cut down.

“Our price point reflects the craftsmanship, long lasting, best in class materials and fair trade that happens at every step of our shoe making process. The permanent collection and new releases are designed to be feminine and bold, accentuating and celebrating the beautiful curves and lines of women’s feet and legs, with an unflinching dedication to versatility and comfort. I began the brand when I could not find a pair of designer heels that were comfortable, coupled with the fact that female shoe designers are severely under-represented in the industry.” – Daniella Shevel

Shop the collection at daniellashevel.com or if you find yourself in New York City’s West Village or in person at the flagship Bleecker Street boutique. Stay tuned for a Miami boutique in the future!
