Light The Night 2021: Artworks Created by South Florida Artists

Broward Cultural Division will “Light the Night” March 1-7 by projecting artwork created by South Florida artists on three buildings in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Innovative displays will be projected following sunset onto the facades of NSU Art Museum, Broward County Government Center and Society Las Olas.

Featuring newly commissioned projection mapping videos by Agustina Woodgate, Jen Clay, Edison Peñafiel and Monica Lopez de Victoria, Light the Night’s nightly activations of light, color and motion – some spanning 10 stories high – will be displayed March 1-7 weeknights from 7-10pm and the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 7-11pm.

Projection mapping, also known as video mapping, is a technology that uses a physical space or object as a surface for a projection rather than a conventional screen. The pieces produced are then masked to a specific surface, a process that gives the projection architectural dimensionality.

This art initiative is presented by Broward Cultural Division and executed by MAD and curator Sofia Bastidas Vivar. Free and available to the public by vehicle, bicycle or walking, attendees must maintain social distancing measures and wear a mask. The three buildings are all within walking distance from each other, with different artworks displayed on the three buildings which will be activated from nightly March 1-7 weeknights from 7-10pm and the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 7-11pm.
