Pool 6 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now open through Saturday, offering bettors a final chance to lock in odds ahead of the 2026 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Arkansas Derby (GI) winner Renegade has been installed as the 4-1 favorite in the pool, with other leading interests including Commandment at 6-1, The Puma at 8-1, and Chief Wallabee at 10-1. The Future Wager offers $2 win and exacta betting and is scheduled to close Saturday at approximately 6:00 PM ET.
Wagering is available through TwinSpires, Churchill Downs’ official advance‑deposit wagering platform.
Major Prep Races Shape Derby Field
Four major Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifying races will help determine the final Derby lineup this weekend, including the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland, the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct, and the Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park. Each event will award qualifying points on a 100-50-25-15-10 scale to the top five finishers.

The historic Blue Grass, first run in 1911, has long been a key springboard to the Kentucky Derby, while the Wood Memorial, inaugurated in 1925, produced nine Derby winners between 1930 and 1951. The Santa Anita Derby, launched in 1935, remains the premier West Coast prep over 1 1/8 miles.
Key Contenders Target Blue Grass, Santa Anita Derby, Wood Memorial
This year’s Blue Grass Stakes appears wide open, with no clear standout among the field. Grade 2 winner Further Ado, a son of Gun Runner trained by Brad Cox for Spendthrift Farm, is among the leading choices after improving from a fifth-place finish on debut at Saratoga to a pair of competitive efforts in subsequent starts.
Talkin, second in last year’s Champagne Stakes (G1), will also try to rebound following a fifth-place finish in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3).
At Santa Anita, Cherokee Nation enters the Santa Anita Derby off a dominant 10‑length maiden win at one mile that earned a 103 Brisnet Speed rating, signaling a sharp step forward after mixed results in his first five starts.
In New York, Wood Memorial hopeful Napoleon Solo will attempt to recapture the form he showed when winning the one‑mile Champagne Stakes (G1) at Aqueduct by 6 1/2 lengths, following a tiring fifth-place effort in his 2026 debut in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park.
Derby Picture and Leaderboard in Flux

Recent prep results have already reshaped the Kentucky Derby landscape more than expected, with several new contenders emerging and others slipping down the pecking order. Additional movement is anticipated after this weekend’s final major preps and the close of Future Wager Pool 6, as horses on the cusp of qualifying seek crucial points to secure a spot in the starting gate.
