Iyashi Dôme Officially Lands in the United States

Updated: Nov 21, 2024

The Iyashi Dôme - a clinically proven biohacking machine at the intersection of luxury and mindful wellness - has officially landed in the United States.

Iyashi Dôme’s patented technology, created by Shogoro Uemura, is inspired by the 300 year-old traditional Japanese ritual “Suna Ryoho”; which consists of burying oneself in the sands of hot water springs to deeply purify and burn fat. This machine blends ancient healing modalities with a patented, clinically proven black carbon technology. The far-infrared plaques encapsulate the body and feet, which differs from the traditional sauna: where superficial sweat is produced to regulate body temperature. Whereas, with the Iyashi Dôme, it penetrates on a deeper skin and muscular level, causing a Category 2 type of sweat—only reached by high intensity exercise. Resulting in breakdown of fat, including cholesterol, fatty acids, subcutaneous fat as well as lactic acid, active oxygen, toxins and heavy metals such as aluminum, mercury, lead, etc.

The Iyashi Dôme currently partners with renowned hospitality groups such as the Aman le Melezin Courchevel, Cap Eden Roc Antibes (Dior spa), Four Seasons Dubaï, among others.

We sat down with wellness entrepreneurs Hannah Cohen and Christiana Weber, the official distributors of the Iyashi Dôme in North America, to chat about the machine’s unique technology and what’s next following their successful launch at Reserve Padel in Miami.

The Iyashi Dôme combines ancient Japanese detox rituals with modern technology. Can you tell us more about how this traditional inspiration influenced its design and benefits?

The Iyashi Dôme draws inspiration from Suna Ryoho, the ancient Japanese practice of sand bathing, which has been celebrated for its healing benefits for centuries. This tradition involves being buried in warm, mineral-rich black sands, to detoxify the body and promote overall well-being. Shogoro Uemura, the French-Japanese founder of the Iyashi Dôme, sought to modernize this practice by creating a technology that delivers similar transformational benefits for both mind and body, making it accessible to everyone in a convenient, luxurious, and scientifically proven way.

What distinguishes the Iyashi Dôme from traditional saunas or other infrared devices on the market, particularly in terms of its technology and health benefits?

Traditional saunas rely on heating the room to high temperatures (158–212°F), which causes a superficial, water-based sweat to cool down the body. In contrast, the Iyashi Dôme uses far-infrared rays (FIR) to directly raise body temperature, inducing a deeper, more intense detoxifying sweat.

The Iyashi Dôme keeps the air cool for added comfort, allowing you to lie down with your head outside the dome, avoiding hot air while promoting better circulation. Its adjustable intensity settings for the upper and lower body ensure a personalized treatment tailored to your needs. Additionally, the far-infrared rays (FIR), not only induce sweat, but enhance the body to detoxify from heavy metals by reaching to a deep muscular, cellular, and mitochondrial level. Hence, this process also promotes cell rejuvenation -reducing the metabolic age since the first session; muscle recovery, skin elasticity; and drives the mind and body to enter into a serene state, that ultimately leads to long term sleep recovery results.

The Iyashi Dôme has been a wellness staple internationally for years, and now you've successfully introduced it to the U.S. market with the Miami pop-up. What were some of the standout moments or feedback you received from guests during this launch?

To introduce the Iyashi Dôme to the U.S. market, we had to enter with a different approach by understanding the gaps within the industry where we found areas of opportunity for our product. The Iyashi Dôme had normally been established in luxury hospitality settings—which definitely is relevant for us down the road map in the U.S.; however, we wanted to reinforce this technology’s versatile benefits so that the audience would better understand what differs us from a regular infrared sauna.

As Miami is a wellness-driven city, it was essential for us to link the Iyashi Dôme with other modalities. In this case Reserve Padel Club, was the ideal platform for members to upgrade their practices by using the Iyashi Dôme post workout. One of the main benefits of the technology is muscle and sleep recovery: both crucial for a better performance throughout the following sports practices they may perform during the week. A wonderful added value of this technology is that it can also be used and contrasted with other recovery modalities such as a cold plunge (also available at Reserve Padel); creating a full wellness experience for their clientele. It was a great challenge, yet a rewarding experience to have actual athletes— including the trainers—express their performance improvement throughout the months of the pop up. Another result users were really excited about was the actual data tracking of benefits they had through a body scan we used prior and post session. Through the scan they were able to see BMI reduction, a lower body water weight, and even a decrease in their metabolic age after one session.

The pop-up's success has likely drawn attention to biohacking and wellness technologies in a new way here. What specific elements resonated most with the US audience?

In a data-driven culture, a key element that has resonated deeply with consumers is the real-time biohacking experience offered by the body scan, which allows customers to see immediate results—such as reduced inflammation and lower metabolic age—after just one session. This instant feedback creates a powerful sense of transformation and empowers repeat visits, as people appreciate seeing tangible improvements in their health and longevity.

This combination of ancient wisdom with modern technology has made the Iyashi Dôme a standout wellness experience in the U.S. market. What sets it apart is its ability to target multiple aspects of health. Offering a unique combination of heavy metal detoxification, muscle recovery, weight loss, and improved sleep, all in one treatment; which ultimately appeals to a broad range of wellness-focused individuals.

Now that the Miami pop-up has introduced Iyashi Dôme to the U.S., what are your plans for expansion in North America? Are there specific cities, events, or partnerships you’re looking forward to?

Following the success of our Miami pop-up, we’re excited to continue expanding Iyashi Dôme’s presence across North America. We've already made significant strides with recent expansions into Mexico and Chile, and our first commercial location in the U.S. just opened in New York City at Reforme, an immersive beauty and recovery space. Moving forward, we plan to expand further on the East Coast and beyond by forging new partnerships with spas, wellness hotels, and luxury and innovative real estate developments. One of our most exciting upcoming collaborations will take place in January 2025, with Reto Health, a cutting-edge wellness center that will feature state-of-the-art recovery, fitness, and biohacking technologies in Miami. We are also exploring opportunities to partner with luxury resorts and wellness destinations, creating more accessible ways for people to experience the transformational benefits of the Iyashi Dôme across North and South America. Our goal is to make this niche wellness technology available to a wider audience while continuing to build our presence in major wellness hubs and hospitality groups.
