Heat Signs Dainja, Keels, Madsen and Young

Your Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed forward Dain Dainja, guard Trevor Keels, guard Gabe Madsen and guard Jahmir Young. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Dainja appeared in 35 games (19 starts) as a senior at Memphis last season and averaged 14.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.34 blocks and 27.1 minutes while shooting 61.5 percent from the field. He led the team to a 29-6 record, helping the squad capture the conference championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance. He scored in double-figures 26 times, including nine 20-point games, and posted nine double-doubles. He led the team in rebounds and field goal percentage while finishing second in points, blocks, field goals made and free throws made.


Keels, who was originally drafted in the second round (42nd overall) by New York in the 2022 NBA Draft, appeared in 31 regular season games (30 starts) with the Iowa Wolves in the G League last season and averaged 20.9 points, 3.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 36.9 minutes while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from three-point range and 76.1 percent from the foul line. He led the team in points, field goals made and three-point field goals made. He scored at least 20 points 21 times, including four 30-point performances. He connected on multiple three-point field goals 24 times and made at least five from downtown eight times. Keels has appeared in 79 career regular season G League games (71 starts) with Iowa and the Westchester Knicks over three seasons averaging 16.5 points, 3.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 33.3 minutes while shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from three-point range and 77.1 percent from the foul line. He has also appeared in three career NBA games with the Knicks totaling three points and two rebounds in 8:02 minutes of action.


Madsen, who played four seasons at the University of Utah, concluded his collegiate career as the school’s all-time leader in three-point field goals made. He became the first player in program history to record at least 100 made three-point field goals in consecutive seasons. Last season, he started in all 33 games he appeared in with the Utes and averaged a team-high 15.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, a team-best 1.00 steals and 29.6 minutes. He led the team in points, steals, field goals made and three-point field goals made. Additionally, he posted 10 20-point games, including a season-high 28 points on two occasions, and recorded nine multi-steal games.


Young, who signed a Two-Way Contract with the Bulls on February 19, split last season between Chicago and the Grand Rapids Gold and Windy City Bulls of the G League. He appeared in 30 total regular season G League games and averaged 21.5 points, 7.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, 2.00 steals and 34.5 minutes while shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 86.1 percent from the foul line. He recorded 20 20-point games, including four 30-point performances and a season-high 40 points on February 12. He posted eight double-doubles, with seven of those consisting of points-assists, and tallied 18 multi-steal games. Additionally, Young appeared in six NBA games with Chicago totaling 11 points, six assists and three rebounds while shooting 80 percent (4-of-5) from the field, 50 percent (1-of-2) from three-point range and a perfect 2-of-2 from the line. Young also recently appeared in Las Vegas with Chicago, setting a Bulls Summer League record with 37 points against Milwaukee on July 16.
