Frost Science Hosts "An Evening of Discovery: Discovering the Ocean's Secrets" Fundraising Event
The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) and its Board of Trustees welcomed over 150 cultural philanthropists, civic leaders and science supporters for “An Evening of Discovery: Discovering the Ocean’s Secrets.” The museum’s fundraiser was held in support of exhibitions and community programs at Frost Science. The evening began with an intimate reception featuring music by students from the Frost School of Music, along with an exclusive viewing of the new special exhibition, Sharks.
The evening’s ocean-themed culinary offerings were prepared by Frost Science’s exclusive catering partner, Constellation Culinary Group, known for providing best-in-class dining experiences for one-of-a-kind cultural centers across the U.S. During the cocktail reception, guests enjoyed a series of passed appetizers, plus an oyster station. Constellation Culinary Group also prepared the evening’s specialty cocktail, the Diamond Sea Fizz, a mix of gin, elderflower liqueur, lemon juice, edible flowers, and club soda.
Following the reception, guests made their way inside the museum’s Ocean Gallery for the evening’s program and dinner. Constellation Culinary Group created a three-course meal inspired by the event’s ocean conservation theme. For the appetizer, guests enjoyed the Heirloom Tomato and Sesame-Crusted Avocado, featuring bitter greens, lemon vinaigrette, green tahini, and fried onion. The main course was fresh, net-caught Olive Oil Poached Grouper served with champagne caviar beurre blanc, chives, crushed potato galette, dehydrated orange and orange oil. The fish was covered in a “net” made of phyllo dough. For dessert, attendees savored the delectable and impressive “Sea Urchin,” a creamy urchin-shaped cheesecake topped with mango mousse and passion fruit sauce in a coral-inspired design.
During dinner, Frost Science President and CEO Dr. Doug Roberts welcomed the crowd before introducing a video message from Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and remarks from City of Miami Commissioner Sabina Covo. Dr. Phillip Frost addressed the esteemed guests before a riveting presentation by Dr. Michael Heithaus (executive dean of Florida International University’s College of Arts, Science & Education) about the importance of ocean science and conservation. Notable guests included Dr. Phillip and Patricia Frost, Frost Science Board Chairman Cesar L. Alvarez, Dr. Mark Yeager, Senator René García, and Jane Hsiao.
