From Miami to Manhattan: Must-See Exhibitions, Galleries, and Events at Armory Week 2025

As art lovers from Miami and beyond head north to New York for one of the biggest moments in the American art calendar, Armory Week 2025 promises an expansive celebration of contemporary and modern art. Running from September 4–8, the week spans dozens of fairs, gallery openings, and museum exhibitions across the city — with international galleries, influential curators, and emerging artists all contributing to a dynamic cultural landscape.

At the heart of it all is The Armory Show, returning to the Javits Center with a lineup that includes the Curatorial Leadership Summit, this year led by Eric Crosby, Director of the Carnegie Museum of Art. The fair also highlights under-recognized voices: Berry Campbell (Booth 443) champions historic women artists such as Alice Baber, Lynne Drexler, and Mercedes Matter, while Library Street Collective (Booth 447) explores intuitive abstraction through works by Patrick Alston, Gary Lang, and Basil Kincaid. Meanwhile, Sean Kelly Gallery (Booth 207) unveils powerful new works by Lindsay Adams, Hugo McCloud, and Janaina Tschäpe — including a vivid blue canvas by Anthony Akinbola, who opens his solo exhibition Camouflage on September 5.

Beyond the fairgrounds, New York itself becomes a vast canvas for Armory Week programming. Duet at WSA, located at 161 Water Street from September 4–8, debuts at The Mall with a compelling roster including Pace, James Fuentes, and Spinello Projects — the latter bringing its Miami roots into the New York spotlight.

Art on Paper returns to Pier 36 (Sept 4–7) with over 80 galleries, showcasing inventive projects like Nina Katchadourian at Pace Gallery and Mark Wagner’s interactive None Dollar Bill. Uptown, Sprüth Magers presents Nancy Holt: Sun Tunnels (Sept 5–Oct 25), featuring rare archival materials and sculptural models of her iconic land art work.

Other highlights include Kennedy Yanko’s tactile, handmade paper pieces at Pace Prints (Without Gravity, Sept 5–Oct 4), and a Mercedes Matter retrospective at Berry Campbell (Sept 5–Oct 4), further celebrating her contributions to Abstract Expressionism.

Looking ahead, Chiharu Shiota’s emotionally resonant installation Two Home Countries opens at the Japan Society on September 12, marking her first New York museum solo show. Meanwhile, the Swiss Institute presents institutional debuts by Bagus Pandega and Mona Filleul, beginning September 30.

For those hoping to catch exhibitions before they close, don’t miss Edward Burtynsky: The Great Acceleration at the International Center of Photography (through Sept 28) or the charming Tove Jansson and the Moomins at the Brooklyn Public Library (through Sept 30) the first U.S. exhibition dedicated to the beloved Finnish illustrator and author.

Whether you're coming from Wynwood or Williamsburg, Armory Week 2025 offers a compelling snapshot of the global art scene at every level from blue-chip galleries to experimental debuts.
