Friends of The Underline, in partnership with Miami-Dade County, celebrated the grand opening of Inter Grove Gallery this past Saturday with a lively community block party that drew more than 250 attendees of all ages. The festivities included a live DJ set, local food vendors, public art, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Miami’s civic leaders.
The event marked the unveiling of The Underline’s newest amenity, a 150,000-square-foot open-air market and cultural hub nestled along US1 between SW 24th Avenue and SW 27th Avenue. Designed as part of The Underline’s mission to transform underutilized land beneath the Metrorail into active public spaces, the Inter Grove Gallery adds shared seating areas, two bocce ball courts, and a growing collection of public art, beginning with “Milagros at the Temple of Abundance,” a privately funded 400-foot mural by artist Alexandre Arrechea celebrating nature and inspiration.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava praised the project’s forward-looking vision during the ribbon cutting. “And so with each phase we're building our commitment to our transit system and we're building for not just today, but for tomorrow,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “As we continue to grow and evolve, we're going to invest in public spaces, create more places for people to get together and build community. This is a unique project. It's beautiful, it's vibrant, it's transformational.”
The celebration also featured remarks from City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, County Commissioners Eileen Higgins and Raquel Regalado, City of Miami Commissioner Ralph Rosado, FDOT, and Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works CEO Stacy Miller, alongside The Underline Founder Meg Daly.
Mayor Francis Suarez highlighted the collaborative spirit behind the initiative, noting, “Government is often about people like the ones behind this microphone who care about the community, who love the community, and who work hard for the community. This would not have happened without Meg Daly, period.”
The Inter Grove Gallery block party invited guests to enjoy music by Girls Make Beats, artist-led activities, and nearly 20 food and information stalls showcasing local artisans and nonprofit partners, including Chapman Partnership, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and FDOT, each sharing stories of community service and connection.
From babies in strollers to octogenarians on foot, attendees walked, biked, rode Metrorail, or drove from all across Miami-Dade to experience firsthand how The Underline continues to redefine Miami’s public spaces as places of creativity and connection.
Meg Daly, Founder and Executive Chair of Friends of The Underline, said, “Every new segment we open reflects Miami’s collective spirit, transforming overlooked spaces into opportunities for joy, health, and human connection.”
The Inter Grove Gallery Community Block Party was free and open to the public, made possible by donations from community members and partners.
