A new cultural initiative is drawing attention to the influence of French design and craftsmanship on American style as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary.

Building on France’s early role as a political ally to American revolutionaries, the program emphasizes contemporary creative ties between the two countries. Organizers are foregrounding French contributions to aesthetics and fashion, positioning taste and style alongside history and diplomacy in the story of Franco-American relations.
As part of the effort, forthcoming exhibitions and commissions will showcase French-made luxury craftsmanship and its dialogue with American culture. The initiative includes historical references, such as a 1966 Celine scarf inspired by the U.S. Postal Service, and new presentations in New York City that explore how French artisanship continues to shape American visual culture.

Further details on the program and related exhibitions will be available through Sotheby’s Magazine as the commemorative calendar for the U.S. semiquincentennial develops.
