Florida Grand Opera Unveils Italian-Language Season in Miami and Fort Lauderdale

Florida Grand Opera has announced a new season centered on three major Italian operas and a one-night Verdi celebration, with performances in Miami and Fort Lauderdale from November 2026 through May 2027.

The season opens with Gaetano Donizetti and Salvadore Cammarano’s "Lucia di Lammermoor," presented at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County’s Ziff Ballet Opera House in Miami on November 14, 2026 at 7:00 p.m., November 15, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., and November 17, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. Set in the Scottish Highlands, the opera follows the doomed love between Lucia and Edgardo, culminating in one of opera’s most famous mad scenes and a tragic conclusion.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s "Don Giovanni," with a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, will then be staged at the same Miami venue on January 30, 2027 at 7:00 p.m., January 31, 2027 at 3:00 p.m., and February 2, 2027 at 8:00 p.m., before moving to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Au-Rene Theater in Fort Lauderdale for performances on February 18 and 20, 2027 at 7:30 p.m. The production traces the downfall of the infamous seducer after he kills the father of a woman he has wronged and refuses to repent, ending in a supernatural reckoning.
Giuseppe Verdi’s "Nabucco," set to a libretto by Temistocle Solera, will follow at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House on April 17, 2027 at 7:00 p.m., April 18, 2027 at 3:00 p.m., and April 20, 2027 at 8:00 p.m. The opera depicts the conquest of Jerusalem by the Babylonian king Nabucco, the exile of the Hebrews, internal power struggles involving Abigaille and Fenena, and a path to redemption that emerges from political and personal turmoil.

The season also includes a one-night Verdi tribute concert at the Broward Center’s Au-Rene Theater in Fort Lauderdale on May 1, 2027 at 7:30 p.m., featuring arias from works such as "La traviata," "Rigoletto," "Aida," "Nabucco," "Il trovatore," "Don Carlos," and "Otello," performed by international singers with Florida Grand Opera’s full chorus and orchestra as part of the company’s 85th anniversary season.
