Florida Grand Opera Secures $3 Million In Matching Gifts From Tina Vidal-Duart And Carlos Duart

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) has received a transformative $3 million in matching gifts from philanthropists Tina Vidal-Duart and Carlos Duart, signaling continued support for the organization’s bold growth. This new donation, which follows a $2 million contribution in early 2024, underscores the Duarts’ commitment to enhancing FGO’s legacy and expanding its impact.

FGO, the oldest and fourth-largest opera company in the U.S., has experienced a revitalization under the leadership of General Director Maria Todaro. The organization is elevating its cultural presence with innovative productions and groundbreaking programs like Voices of Wellness—a national initiative using the arts to promote healing and well-being.

The Duarts’ latest matching gift will directly benefit FGO’s main-stage productions during the 2025-2026 season, as well as its extensive education and community outreach efforts. These include immersive programs designed to engage young audiences, such as Dress Rehearsal Experiences, School Outreach Programs, and opportunities for aspiring singers through the CANTO and Studio Artist Programs.

The Voices of Wellness initiative also stands as a key area of focus, with the program offering healing arts experiences for first responders, veterans, medical professionals, and others facing health or emotional challenges. The Duarts’ support aligns with Tina Vidal-Duart’s healthcare advocacy through her company, CDR Health, highlighting the intersection of the arts and wellness.

Tina Vidal-Duart, FGO’s Board Chair and a longtime advocate for the institution, emphasized the importance of maintaining a dynamic performing arts scene in Miami. “Florida Grand Opera is the backbone of performing arts in this community,” she said. “Its continued success is critical to Miami’s cultural growth.”

Carlos Duart echoed the sentiment, noting the need for world-class arts offerings in Miami to rival those of major cultural cities. “We want to ensure performing arts that rival The Met and Broadway are available in a big way here,” he said.

As FGO’s 2024-2025 season approaches, the company is poised to continue its artistic renaissance with productions like The Elixir of Love and Carmen. With these latest gifts, FGO is set to strengthen its role as a cultural powerhouse in South Florida while also expanding its national and global reach.
