Opera fans around the world are celebrating World Opera Day today, and Florida Grand Opera is marking the occasion by highlighting its upcoming season plans and inviting community support.

The company will present Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in November, describing the production as a showcase of grand opera with virtuosic singing, dramatic storytelling, and a focus on emotional intensity. Audiences are encouraged to secure seats in advance by buying tickets for the Miami performances.

Florida Grand Opera is also using World Opera Day to spotlight its 85th Anniversary Fundraising effort, noting that ticket revenue covers only a portion of production costs. The campaign seeks contributions to sustain presentations of world-acclaimed singers, full sets, period costumes, and related artistic and educational initiatives, with the board of directors pledging to match donations received during the week.

Supporters are being asked to share information about the production and fundraising drive with friends, family, and colleagues, encouraging them to attend performances and contribute financially to help maintain the company’s work across South Florida.
